Chamber

Sonata nº1, Op.28

Sunday, 21 December 2014

Solo Violoncello

35 min. aprox.

This big sonata has several influences (minimalism, baroque, blues, classicism, jazz, latin music, rock, romanticism, etc.)

Program notes

I. Molto allegro.
II. Vals: exposición. Non troppo allegro
III. Barcarola. Doloroso e mesto. Più mosso. Tempo I. Pochissimo meno mosso
IV. Vals: trío. Andantino semplice. Meno mosso. Tempo I
V. Grave.
VI. Vals: reexposición. Non troppo allegro
VII. Finale: Allegro con spirito. Sempre ritmico

Composed around B minor key, all movements are developed by a little motive that is changing progressively.

The first and last pieces are happy and carefree, really influenced by blues, jazz, rock and latin music. The ryhtmic development on them is really important as well as the velocity. They are composed in B minor key.

The exposition and reexposition from the Vals ("valse", movements 2 and 6) are very delicate and simple. They seems a sunrise scene in the mountains and are composed in D mayor key.

Barcarola (movement 3) has always a funeral feeling. It represents a sad travelling inside Caronte´s boat. B minor is the selected key for this piece.

The fourth movement, Vals: trío, is a sweet lullaby built around F# key.

Without doubts, the fifth movement is the more passionate one. It seems to end in a dessesperate way but when finishing the piece it turns into a fragile, calm and major chord. Probably, there is no worth asking life so much questions about our problems and is better to keep calm and go on with a possitive point of view.
