Program notes
Amor Hermoso ("Beautiful Love") is a processional march that reflects on the love that a mother professes for her children while musically describes the depth, tenderness and joy of those feelings. Likewise, this mother is represented not only from the earthly but also from the spiritual side, seeking an encounter through the love that exists inside this music.
“This march is dedicated to those who inspired its creation, on the one hand, my mother Remedios Garrido Checa and, on the other hand, the blessed Virgin of Beautiful Love of Cartagena. To both of you, my eternal thanks for teaching me the extraordinary essence of a mother's unconditional love” (Javier Pérez Garrido).
This composition, created in 2014 and revised in 2020, was premiered on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the Virgin of Beautiful Love, in an exceptional concert of an atypical Holy Week whose processions were suspended for the second consecutive year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Its first performers were the director Captain Víctor Enguídanos and the Spanish Navy Band. The event, which took place in El Batel Auditorium in Cartagena took place on March 26th, 2021 (Cartagena's big festivity day) in the presence of civil and military authorities, members of the Cartagena brotherhoods and the composer himself with his mother.
