Recently, two concerts have included "spanish pasodobles" for band composed by Javier Pérez Garrido. The first one, at William Abbott Concert Hall (University of Wisconsin-River Falls -Javier is the composer in residence at this University during this year-) scheduled the first American performance of Víctor Barrio, with the Symphony Band and director Dr. Kristin Tjornehoj.
Likewise, the city of Cartagena, during the Night of Museums festivity, organized the concert "Cartagena, land of pasodobles", with a selection of the winners in the 30 editions of the International Composition Contest " Villa de Pozo Estrecho" including Asociación Musical El Castillo, Op.24, which led Pérez Garrido to win the First Prize and Special Mention in 2008. Its performers were the SAM Santa Cecilia de Pozo Estrecho Band and the director Hector J. Hurtado.
Finally, the chamber music pasodoble Bajo el Viento Azul, Op.20a for clarinet in Eb and bass clarinet is being prepared to be recorded by Dúo Carreras in Galicia, Spain, and one of the rehearsals, at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Vigo, was attended by Javier since he was in the city participating as a speaker at the International Wind Band Music Congress of the Spanish Society of Musicology.
